Because we love food...

Rome offers so many wonderful treats(!) and we love sampling culinary highlights during our tours. Part of this is definitely for the sheer enjoyment of sharing the tastiest bits of Rome with our guests, but maybe it's also because we want you to miss Rome when you leave!

If you're looking for some great food during your downtime, here's a list of the places where we're eating now. Our current favorite spots in Rome.

(It's always best to call first, so we're including phone numbers.)

Antico Arco

Warm, cozy-but-modern ambiance and attentive service make dining here a wonderful experience. We recommend feasting on the appetizers and trying their 'cacio e pepe' pasta, a Roman classic.

(Piazzale Aurelio, 7, near Trastevere – tel, +39 06 5815274)

Ferrara

Two friends opened this restaurant 25 years ago, known for excellent ingredients, hard to find wines, and a cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Decide between their casual and fine-dining sections.

(V. del Moro, 1, in Trastevere – tel. +39 06 58333920)

Il Convivio Troiani

An impeccable and scrumptious little Michelin-starred restaurant. Go here for an elegant, intimate dinner. A great wine list and exquisite attention to detail, both in their service and in their cooking.

(Vicolo dei Soldati, 31, near Piazza Navona – tel, +39 06 6869432)

Il Sorpasso

We come for the great wine, cocktails, cheese and cold-cut platters, but we stay just to hang out and soak up the local flavor at this neighborhood favorite.

(Via Properzio, 31, near the Vatican – tel. +39 06 89024554)

L'Arcangelo

A wonderful restaurant with timeless décor and local atmosphere. Inventive and classic Roman dishes. Popular with locals as well as the few travelers who find their way in.

(Via Giuseppe Gioacchino Belli, 59, near Castel Sant'Angelo – tel. +39 06 3210992)

Moma

Wonderful modern-Italian food in comfortable contemporary setting. It is impossible to get better food near Via Veneto without paying a fortune. Caters largely to a local clientele.

(Via San Basilio, 42, near Via Veneto – tel. +39 06 42011798)

Pierluigi

Classy seafood spot if you'd like to settle in for a long and lovely Italian meal. Outdoor seating available in an idyllic Roman piazza. Let them recommend daily specials.

(Piazza de Ricci, 144, near Campo dei Fiori – tel, +39 06 6868717)

Taverna Trilussa

Splendid salads, astonishing cheeses, lovely desserts, good grilled meats, and maybe the best cold-cuts in Rome. The problem here is knowing when to stop eating! Reserve an outdoor table.

(Via Politeama, 23, in Trastevere – tel, +39 06 5818918)
